Hello Africa. Meet Cardano.

Hello Africa. Meet Cardano.

What’s Proof of Africa?

PoA is a stakepool which represents Africa in the Cardano ecosystem. You can think of it as a stakepool-based adoption driver based in Africa. We want to contribute to the bootstrap of Cardano in Africa. As a beginning, we are currently organizing events to educate people about Cardano in Nigeria. Later in 2020, we will start focusing more on developers with hackathons, grants,… By delegating your ADA to us, you are essentially helping with getting Cardano adopted in Africa.

We have already hosted several events in the past. And it's just the beginning.

Our stakepool is...

Secure

No need to panic, your staking rewards are safe with us. Our infrastructure is based in the cloud, protected with firewalls. The data centers we are using are protected 24/7 and we plan to run several relay nodes to further secure our stakepool.

Uptime-driven

We have chosen to have our stakepool in the cloud for security reasons, we want your money to be safe, but also to make sure our pool is always up, in order for you to gain more staking rewards.

Reasonably priced

Our fee is just 10% of your staking rewards. We think that’s a fair price for an enterprise-grade infrastructure powering our stakepool, and our activities in Africa which are incredibly expensive to organize for a small stakepool like us.

Why Proof of Africa?
Because we are...

Organizing events

We have been organizing several events in the past, including meet-ups and hackathons. Thanks to that, we have the necessary experience to start organizing more and more events. After the Goguen release, we plan to progressively start hosting hackathons in Nigeria.

Educating

Our current focus is on education, through our events, but we are also in talks with local schools in Nigeria to start giving regular blockchain courses where we will cover Cardano in every detail.

Investing

After the Goguen release, we plan to start giving grants away to local developers, to allow them to fund the early-stage development of their Cardano-based dApps and services. On a long-term perspective, we may even start investing in local startups active in the Cardano ecosystem.

A few numbers about Africa...

1.3 billion people

In 1998, Africa’s population was estimated around 760 million people, which means that in a bit more than 20 years, the population nearly doubled. By 2100, it’s estimated that the African continent will represent nearly 40% of the world population, or 4.3 billion people.

Source

+-60y of life expectancy

In the 1950s, the average life expectancy was 37.46 years, in 2015, the average life expectancy reached 60.23 year, which is still a ridiculously low number compared to the +-80 years European life expectancy.

Source

2.5%+ of yearly growth

Sub-Saharan Africa’s is the home to the world’s largest free-trade area and a 1.2 billion-person market, the continent is poised to create an entirely new development path harnessing the potential of its resources and people.

Source

+-18 years of median age

15% of the African population is under 15 years old, and only 3% is over 65 years old. This is a huge difference with North America for example, which has « only » 19% of its population under 15 years old 15% over 65 years (5 times Africa).

We are two Cardano ambassadors who are deeply involved in the project. Joshua has been organizing meet-ups with his own money since 2018 to educate people in Nigeria about Cardano and is a host on the Cardano Community Podcast. Max has founded one of the leading blogs in the Cardano community called Gerolamo and is also a host on the Cardano Community Podcast.

Proof of Africa relies on its stakepool to generate funds which are used in Africa by our local team to fund events like meet-ups, hackathons,.. but they are also used to give grants to local developers active in the Cardano ecosystem.

We provide a quarterly report, available on our blog where we show how the funds were used, our financial situation,... You can find here our latest quarterly report.

It depends. Joshua, who is in charge of everything happening in Africa only « rewards himself » after having organized an event. We think you should only be rewarded after having done something, not before. Though, Max, who is in charge of everything not happening in Africa is currently not taking any profit, and this shouldn't be subject to change in the near future.

We are using a South-African cloud provider, which means we are FULLY Africa based. It would indeed be a bit ridiculous to focus on Africa but have the stakepool based in Europe or the US. Besides, we are planning to have a few relay nodes when Shelley officially launches to protect our stakepool from DDOS attacks.

First, our stakepool is secure, uptime-driven and reasonably priced. We have just a 10% operators fee, with no fixed fee. Second, we are not just operating a stakepool, we are actively contributing to the bootstrap of Cardano in Africa. We do this, through the organization of events, such as meet-ups or hackathons, giving blockchain and Cardano-focused courses at local schools and giving grants to local developers to further accelerate the development of Cardano in Africa. By delegating your ADA to our stakepool, you are contributing with the adoption of Cardano in Africa.
